What is Psychodynamic psychotherapy?

The basis of psychodynamic therapy is a belief that how we think, feel, and behave has been impacted by our environment and early relationships. Throughout our lives, our inner world is dynamic and constantly changing. The emphasis in psychodynamic psychotherapy is about having a connection with your therapist, where you feel you have a safe space to talk about yourself and your relationships. This allows you to explore with your therapist past traumas, understand the root causes of difficulties and begin to recognize past patterns in your relationships and behaviours. The aim is to empower clients by giving them insight, understanding and awareness of their past and current experiences which can lead to positive change and bring about long-term healing. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a long-term therapy, where the importance of reflecting and working through past traumas and struggles together with your therapist is essential to achieve a positive outcome.
